Consequently, the module challenges many of the taken for granted assumptions of the conventional undergraduate management text book in such a way as to provide opportunities to both theorise management and to explore the realities of organisational experiences. The module gives specific emphasis to an understanding of what management and organisational behaviour is about, what it is for and what it seeks to do. We will evaluate various approaches to understanding organisational phenomena and the complexities of the organisational and social world, and introduce alternative perspectives on various dynamics found in and around organisations, such as structure, culture, power and motivation. It seeks to develop critical and analytical skills in both thinking and writing, and provides an analytical framework to assist you to question and reflect on management and organisational processes.
