Those interested in using koi8rxterm will likely want to install the xfonts-cyrillic package as well. The xterm program uses bitmap images provided by the xbitmaps package. In the end the installation of 'xterm' was totally unnecessary since I found that I was able to comment out the 'resize -u' line completely since the initial failure of that particular script ended up due to a totally unrelated issue and not to the lack of 'xterm' being installed. The main difference between XTerm and Terminal is that the gnome-terminal has more features, while XTerm is minimalistic (though it has features that are’t in gnome-terminal, but they are more advanced). XTerm is the standard terminal emulator for the X Window System. If your computer has more than 512MB of RAM, you should be fine using GNOME Terminal. The thing youre calling 'terminal' is probably GNOME Terminal, which is outrageously better than uxterm for everything but resource usage. It provides DEC VT102 and Tektronix 4014 compatible terminals for programs that cannot use the window system directly. So if you have a dichotomous choice between xterm and uxterm, always choose uxterm.
